I just left home for college, and have been taking summer classes at the University. I also just got my first job, and I was a little dismayed that they took so much money out of my paycheck. I’m taking a history of economics class, and read in my textbook that the government didn’t start taking taxes out of people’s paychecks until 1943, to help with the war. After the war, they kept doing it, and now there are people trying to get the government to stop withholding taxes. I haven’t decided what I think yet. I don’t like having my money taken away and then given back at the end of the year, but then again, I’m not disciplined enough to save money out of each check for taxes either!
